What does it mean to be disabled and desirable? In Picture This, a new documentary by Jari Osborne, we meet Andrew Gurza, a self-described “queer cripple” who has made it his mission to make sex and disability part of the public discourse.

Queer As Folk
(tv series, 2022)

Queer as Folk (2022) is an 8-episode Peacock drama set in New Orleans that follows a diverse group of friends whose lives are transformed after a tragedy. Created by Stephen Dunn, the series focuses on the survivors of a shooting at a gay club, dealing with grief, trauma, and finding joy. Andrew Gurza appears in S1E4 as Cute Boy.

I have never heard anyone put into words what I was thinking about my life as a queer man [I'm trans, too] who is disabled. I listen to his podcasts frequently, and they are refreshing. I especially love that Andrew doesn't discriminate against other minorities as we sometimes see with others raising awareness for different things. In one episode there was a comment about people that want to be disabled. Andrew was talking about different things that are similar, and said 'like people who want to be disabled, like people who want to be transgender,' I froze, my heart sank. I didn't want to listen to transphobia that I hear from cis queers all the time, but Andrew saved it! Andrew explained that the way it was said was wrong as you don't 'want to be transgender' you just are."
